Texas Southern University Confucius Institute Successfully Held "China Expressions" Art Exhibition

On November 4th, "Chinese Expressions – Ten Contemporary Artists" opening ceremony, organized by Texas Southern University Confucius Institute (TSUCI), was held at University Museum of Texas Southern University (TSU) at 7:00pm. This is the first time for TSU to hold a large-scale exhibition with contemporary Chinese artworks. The exhibition, with over 50 pieces of artworks from ten outstanding Chinese artists, represents the entire Chinese contemporary art in Houston.

Li Qiangmin, Chinese Consul General in Houston, Xie Fei, Cultural Counselor, Mr. Al Green, US Congressman, Dr. Gregory H Maddox, Vice Dean of Texas Southern University, Dr. Alvia Wardlaw, Director of Museum, Ms. Kim Ogg, the Prosecutor of Harris County attended and addressed the opening ceremony, as well as Li Weihua, Chairman of the South America Media Group, Chen Wen, the famous Chinese lawyer of Houston, Sun Tiehan, President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Houston, and other overseas Chinese.
Li Qiangmin, Chinese Consul General in Houston delivered a speech to audience, expressing his surprise to the artists’ artworks, encouraging the Confucius Institute to build a better platform for the dissemination of Chinese culture. He hopes that Confucius Institute would facilitate cultural exchanges between China and the U.S.Mr. Al Green praised China's economic achievements, thanked the Confucius Institute for its role in cultural exchanges, and presented a certificate of congratulation to the exhibition.Dr. Gregory H. Maddox, Vice Dean of Texas Southern University, said the activities of the Confucius Institute were very attractive and enriched the university's multiculturalism.Dr. Alvia Wardlaw, Director of the Museum, presented the certificate to the artists. Artist Professor Xu Yun presented her paintings to Mr. Al Green and Ambassador Li Qiangmin.









Global Learning Village (a local teaching spot set by Confucius Institute) students sang "Jasmine Flower" and "Heart of Thanksgiving" as an opening ceremony performance.The Department of Music performed the Chinese song "Pamir My Hometown", "That's Me" and the musical, which attracted the audience's participation.
The two-week exhibition is widely publicized in Houston area, inviting people from all fields to visit the art event and experience contemporary Chinese culture. Using the Chinese contemporary painting and calligraphy to promote Chinese culture, Texas Southern University Confucius Institute builds an academic platform and a bridge of Chinese contemporary art communication.
