Chinese Language Courses

Elementary Chinese I

We offer three sections of Elementary Chinese I for students interested in learning and applying Mandarin Chinese. Students that are registered for at least one semester of the Chinese language courses will be given priority to participate in the summer trip to China in 2018.

Elementary Chinese II

We offer one section of Elementary Chinese II for students interested in advancing their Mandarin Chinese skills to an intermediate level. For students that have not taken Elementary Chinese I, but possess a background in basic Chinese language training, we will provide a placement exam to assess their skills and level of Chinese fluency.

Intermediate Chinese I

Intermediate Chinese course, continues on building vocabulary, structure, and cultural information, with strengthened skills of comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, with practice on correct use of language via composition and presentation.

Chinese History Courses

HIST 362. History of Modern China

This course will explore contemporary China in historical context, including its relations with the rest of the world, and in particular East Asia, Africa, Europe, and the U.S.

This course will use films to help understand Chinese history, covering Chinese history from the early imperial period up to the present.
